Boston Terrier Art

Boston terrier art is a popular form of dog art that has fascinated American artists. Originally bred to be a part of the dog fighting circuit in early American culture, Boston terriers have since risen to be a beloved pet and pop art icon among canine artists. The friendly, and sometimes silly, pooches that are shown in most Boston terrier prints are a far cry away from the dangerous and deadly dogs that they were originally bred to be. Instead, artists choose to highlight the qualities that made these animals such great pets, including their gentle natures and willingness to play. However, occasionally artists hint at the history of these canines in their terrier designs, as seen in Dean Russo's canine print 'Boston Terrier Crowned' where the canine in question stares out of the vividly colored canvas with a quiet determination and intensity that suggests this breeds more ruthless roots.

A popular medium for Boston terrier art is canine pop art, a form of art to which this terrier breed is uniquely suited. An artist who has explored this avenue of expression is seen in talented artist Robert McClintock, whose canine prints are emotive and delightfully unique. Robert McClintock has done several different studies of Boston terriers in his work but the most famous examples depict Boston terriers on tiled floors with bright saturated colors in a variety of poses.

Because of the many artistic expressions of this particular canine, Boston terrier art has become a favorite among collectors of dog art and the amount of stylistic diversity that is represented in these terrier designs have made it a popular art category for animal art lovers. These works range from brush-and-ink treatments, as seen in 'Good Dog I' by Chariklia Zarris, to photographic depictions like Seth Casteel's 'Wanna Play' and everything in between. Also, due to the humanistic range of facial expressions that the Boston terrier can imitate, terrier designs featuring these canines have been used to depict everything from playful curiosity to melancholy contemplation.
