Cocker Spaniel Art

Cocker spaniel art has been highly popular in the United States and around the world ever since the early 1920's when these dogs first captured the hearts of audiences in dog shows. Since then, the picturesque grooming and cute appearance of this animal has given rise to framed cocker spaniel art as a diverse category within the field of canine fine art.

Cocker spaniel art originally began in England, where these canines were used for rustling game out of this brush, however, the American cocker spaniel is the most common of this breed to be used for artistic purposes. Because the American breed is considered more elegant and cuter than their English counterparts, who have retained their original sporty look, the American breed is generally seen in dog art.

Both of these types are displayed as being energetic and fun-loving creatures in illustrative dog prints, even though the appearance of these two types and the environs they appear in are depicted differently.

Cocker spaniel illustrations gained popularity after the dog breed won the most consecutive dog shows that's ever been awarded to a particular canine breed. However, Coppertone's infamous advertisement where a playful cocker spaniel puppy pulls at a girls swimsuit bottom helped it to gain the attention of modern animal pop artists. Curiously, several artists choose to portray cocker spaniels alongside young girls, as seen in Mark Arian's painting 'Just For You'. This trend could be because of the commercialized dog prints which have made this breed famous; however, most art experts contribute this to the long hair and meticulous grooming that characterize this breed as being more 'feminine'.

The picturesque grooming of this canine has become its major artistic icon among modern art enthusiasts. With its long floppy ears and soulful eyes, this breeds grooming has become iconic among audiences. Even candid paintings, such as Sally Evans' cocker spaniel painting 'Candy' depict this breed with a closely trimmed face and luxuriantly curly ears which is considered archetypical of this breed.
