The earliest floral radiographs used in eucalyptus artwork were first created over 75 years ago and even today not many artists do radiographic artwork. The work is done by using an x-ray machine instead of a camera or painting. The x-rays show a hidden world of different textures, shapes and beauty that no camera can provide. They invoke a sense of wonder, excitement and fascination to whoever looks at them.

Artists use a form of electronic radiation in a non-destructive technique to produce eucalyptus prints which are sometimes used in radiographic art. X-rays can pass through paint layers and easily support the properties of whatever material is being x-rayed such as its thickness and density. Denser areas of the artwork show up much lighter or white in color. It is a very useful technique for detecting composition changes, hidden paintings or areas that have been over painted. The examination reveals the information, condition and composition of painting in canvases, panels and sculptures.
