Ranunculus Art

Looking at ranunculous artwork you might think are oh, what a pretty flower! Or I wonder what that flower is? A ranunculous is a delicate and impressive looking plant that produces colorful flowers, which look like crepe paper. The word “Ranunculous” comes from the Latin term which means “little frog”. It comes in a variety of different colors such as pink, white, purple, red and vibrant yellow.

It is depicted in many different images including ranunculous canvas artwork. Traditionally, the flower was given and the recipient is considered to be dazzling and charming. It Persian Buttercup, or Coyote’s Eyes from a legend that says the flowers were once used by a mythical coyote to replace his stolen eyes which were taken by an eagle.

The most well known artist to create ranunculous art piece is Claude Monet, famous for his Impressionism work. Monet was born in 1840 in Paris, France. His painting style was famously dubbed “Impressionism” by an art critic, who felt that his work was more concerned with light and form rather than realism.

This beautiful flower has inspired many artists with its buttercup shape and different shades of colour. Artist and photographer Pip Bloomfield who has done a couple of ranunculous canvas artworks including her Ranunculous Right and Left pieces. Susy Pilgrim Waters with her Ranunculous on Green, and the stunning Elegent Rununculous I and II by Christine Zalewski. This amazing flower will continue to inspire many more artists to do Ranunculous art for years to come.
