Succulent Wall Art

Succulent artwork is a perfect choice for anyone looking to bring a hint of desert scenery into their home. Succulent plants, also called fat plants, have thicker flesh than normal plants, and retain more water than usual in arid conditions. The word “succulent” stems from the Latin word sucus, which means juice or sap. Some of the most popular succulents include various cacti and aloe plants.

Succulent art includes both photographs and fine art, and is sure to take viewers on a journey to distant, exotic locations. Artist Karen Ussery brings succulent plants to life with her zoomed-in photographs; she focuses on the unique shapes and forms of the plants, which are wildly different from other plants. In “Black Tip Succulent,” Ussery depicts a succulent with long white leaves that have black spikes around their edges. Another photo titled “Lettuce Leaf Succulent” shows a succulent with curled green leaves, which all have pinkish-red borders.

Other artists like Janet Kruskamp and Megan Meagher choose to portray succulents through drawings instead. Kruskamp’s “Succulent I” highlights the unusual texture that succulent plant leaves have. Using highlighting and shading techniques, the artist is able to seamlessly replicate the waxiness of the leaves. Meagher utilizes similar artistic skills in her black-and-white prints “Lunar Succulent I” and “Lunar Succulent II.” The lack of color in these works of art serve to emphasize the distant shapes of the two different succulents’ leaves.

Succulent art pieces showcase nature’s ability to produce works of art. Succulent plants are some of the most diverse plants found in nature and gardens alike; they tend to be some of the most memorable ones, too.
