Classic Bohemian Art Prints

The word ‘bohemian’ may conjure up images of the unconventional, but when it comes to art, that definition couldn’t be further from the truth. Bohemian wall art is all the rage at the moment, and it’s easy to see why. Stunning elephant prints and rich tapestries are mixed in among hippy quotes and quirky portraits to create a relaxed yet tasteful vibe.

Authentic Bohemian-themed art is a far cry from the bourgeois pretention that so many expect from this style. Dating back to the 1800s, Bohemianism was originally a lifestyle created and adopted by artists, actors and, eventually, aristocrats among society. This way of life was centered on living differently, freely and authentically. The style of art which succeeded it focuses on the joy of living as you wish; wandering outside of the bounds of ‘normal’ society.

Henri Toulouse-Lautrec is undoubtedly one of the most famous Bohemian artists, most known for his piece La Blanchisseuse, which depicts a young woman gazing out of a window who is believed to be a laundress by day and a prostitute by night – surely the ultimate in Bohemianism? Regularly depicted in films, such as Moulin Rouge, the authentic Bohemian lifestyle is often coveted, even if it is slightly difficult to explore in our modern society. Art is the ultimate vessel to show your appreciation for this way of life, and can act as a snapshot of times gone by.

Bohemian art is the perfect way to bring a sense of color and passion to the walls of your home, while embracing the gypsy within you. It’s easy to recreate the Boho-chic vibe in your own home, either through showcasing reproductions of famous pieces, or through scouring through a plethora of newer, Boho-inspired pieces. Either way, the whole idea behind this notion is to go with whatever feels right for you...
