Train Station Art

Modern train stations are tiny cities where people go by their daily activities, shop and eat while waiting for their mean of transportation. All this commotion can be dizzying at times, so it hardly surprising that so few can imagine how the stations used to be one century ago. Picasso.com will help refresh memories and also present aspiring decorators with extraordinary beautiful train station prints that depict some of the most famous ones nationwide.

In the early 20th century, traveling by train was not an adventure but still an extraordinary voyage especially when people had to cover long distances. The train stations were impressive hubs where hundreds of people got together at the same time, anxiously waiting for a train to arrive or depart. Picasso.com has great train station photographs featuring the Grand Central Station and Penn station in the 30s, inundated by light and populated by people.

On the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, those who are passionate about train station posters will be surely impressed by the Gare Montparnasse and Gare Saint-Lazare. If you’re lucky enough to travel to Paris and visit these places, you’ll be impressed by how much they have changed. Those who prefer to decorate their homes with black-and-white train station photos will understand the paradox of choice, because there are dozens to choose from. On the other hand there are also train station paintings including instantly recognizable artwork belonging to Claude Monet, the famous Impressionist artist.
