Flemish Baroque Art

Not too often military conquest acts as a catalyst for art to flourish, but the Spanish conquest of the Southern Netherlands is such a rare example. During Spanish control, the Flemish Baroque Art emerged and flourished, with some of the most beautiful paintings and sculptures seeing the light of day. The movement lasted for a full century and over the span, artists such as Rubens, van Dyck and Jordaens got together in Antwerp to deliver remarkable Flemish Baroque paintings.

Many of these gorgeous Flemish Baroque Artworks can be appreciated in museums, but now it is possible to also bring a part of history to your home. All of them made a strong impact on the 17th century visual culture, so it is only fair to say that they look equally good on the walls of any household.

Those who consider themselves big fans of portraits, still life or landscape painting should know that Flemish Baroque art served as a source of inspiration for 18th century artists. As for decorative purposes, these artworks are just as actual and attractive today as they were hundreds of years ago, despite being displayed to a different audience. Perhaps this is the biggest merit of true art, that it stays beautiful many years after it was created and regardless of technological and cultural changes.
