French Country Art

The French are extremely proud of their country and French Country Prints at Picasso.com prove that they are entitled to celebrate their country's beauty. Famous for sophistication, attention to details and refinement, the French were sometimes dismissed as pretentious by those who found this pedantry excessive. A visit in both the rural and urban areas and direct interaction with the people will change such perception, but art itself can serve the same purpose. French Country posters brilliantly succeed at capturing the unmistakable charm of the realm, with unique architecture, rich culture and affinity for luxury.

French art was heavily influence by the Italian and Flemish counterparts during the Renaissance period, but went its own way from the 17th century onward. This was the time when French painters thrived without severing the ties with Italian art and some of their masterpieces can be found among the French Country paintings. Over the next century they created the rococo style, a more intimate version of the baroque, with painters such as Jean Honore Fragonard and Antoine Watteau spearheading the movement.

France acted as a magnet for painters in the wake of the French Revolution and provided the catalysts for the development of Romanticism and Naturalism. Modern artists have captured the essence of French country art in their drawings and paintings, with the likes of Chariklia Zarris and Kimberly Poloson being shining examples. Their prints celebrate the breathtaking perfumes, idyllic coffee shops and exquisite restaurants that together embody the essence of the French country.
