Mayan Art

Mayan art is a reflection of culture and lifestyle of the people of Maya. Mayan art was a significant trade niche. It was constituted of painting and delineation on plaster and paper, carvings in bone, Jade, stone, Obsidian, wood, stucco and clay models, and molded terracotta figurines. The metal procession techniques were as well highly developed, but were mostly used only in art, since the resources were very limited.

Perhaps, the most spectacular of Mayan art were and still are the pyramids. These ancient and magnificent structures were built between 200 and 900 AD. Mayan pyramids were used for various, but quite essential purposes. They were primarily used for religious ceremonies. But they also were landmarks for simpler navigation. Mayan pyramids were built so tall that they might be seen above the tree tops in the jungle, where they were built. Some of Mayan pyramids also included burial chambers that were used for officials of highest ranks, quite similar to Egyptian pyramids. But, above all, the pyramids are the culmination of Mayan art.
