Most canyon art focuses on the subject of the Grand Canyon in all of its diverse wonder and photographers and artists alike have spent their lives documenting the moods and variety of this natural landmark. Ansel Adams, in particular, is a photographer that dedicated his life to his passion for canyon art and his black and white photographs show a place that is as majestic as it is mysterious.

Artists also find the subject matter of canyon art fascinating. Artists that focus on western and Native American themes in their work delight in the many opportunities that canyon artwork provide them. However, for artists like Moises Levy, the canyon itself is what inspires his work. The patterns of rock, sand, caves and other naturally occurring phenomena within canyons are present within all of his work.

Although most western canyon art focuses on the Grand Canyon, artists from other countries also address the subject with depictions of breath-taking canyons around the world. For art enthusiasts, the passion the artist feels for the subject matter is transferred to the canvas, creating canyon art an uniquely fascinating experience for the observer.
