Portraits

The human face is in itself a source of great beauty and this explains why painters have always tried to capture it on canvas. Portrait wall art enjoys the same appreciation today as it did centuries ago and this applies to self-portraits as well. Back in the day, rich people were willing to pay a lot of money to skilled painters to create their portrait, hoping that their faces will be admired long after they are gone. To some extent they were right and Picasso.com is now the place where some of the most successful portraits can be acquired, for a reasonable price tag.

Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo were among the first to create portrait paintings and many of their artwork was inspired by biblical scenes. Those representing ordinary people are equally beautiful and the fact that many of them are unnamed and we have no way of knowing the identity of the subject, doesn’t have a deterring effect on buyers. As artistic movements changed, the interest for portrait prints remains intact and both Impressionists and modernists created masterpieces dedicated to the human face.

Political figures are also featured in portrait art prints and even though nowadays politicians are hardly of any interest to shoppers, portraits of Abraham Lincoln or George Washington make a great purchase. Even the black-and-white photographs of Thomas Edison or Marilyn Monroe would look great decorating rooms featuring modern furniture and adorned with few paintings.
